Smittybilt SRC Classic Rear Bumpers

Bumper is great, just find a better distributor, 4wd will screw you over and not give a dam.
GREAT BUMPER, NO PROBLEMS INSTALLING, NEVER HAD TO DROP THE GAS TANK BOLTED RIGHT UP TOOK 1 HR INCUDING REMOVING THE STOCK BUMPER
The bumper installed right can tow stuff. You could do this bumper with out dropping tank but just drop tank a little makes it so much easier and dropping a tj tank well pretty easy guys so don't sweat it it will go faster .if you have to drill holes or don't have to like in my case I would go just a little bit bigger cuz the holes don't quite line up but that's your choice but bumper nice like it and it does have towing rating even called smittybuilt to make sure
This is an excellent bumper. As per the other reviews, it would have been easier to install if you dropped the fuel tank, but if you spend a little extra time, you can put in and tighten the inner bolts without dropping the tank. Looks great and works well.
2 weeks after installing the bumper, I was rear ended by another vehicle. The bumper took the impact successfully with only a few minor scratches from the collision. This bumper saved my restoration from any further damage.
This bumper will do everything that i need it to do. A word of caution, this thing is heavy, so use a jack and jack stands when installing it. I have a few busted knuckles from trying to hold it, line up holes and install mounting hardware. Overall this is exactly what I wanted.
easy install on my 90 wrangler, less wieght than the custom bumper i had on,gets the 36 in. tire wieght off the tailgate...and looks great, and opens and closes easily for wide open access to back of jeep. had it delivered to the store in orlando and picked it up no shipping...luv it
EZ install, nice coating. Looks good!
This thing is SUPER strong. I was involved in a 4 car pile up and there is absolutely no damage found on this thing. Great for off roading, recovery is great with the added D rings. Also i purchased a tow hook to fit in the 2" receiver, virtually unstoppable.
I read a few reviews about this product before purchasing. Most complained of rattle they could hear when driving and difficulty installing. It did take a few hours to install, mostly because I was doing it myself, but also a few of the places didn't have the bolts lining up just right, which was remedied with a rubber mallet and some tough love. When I first installed this it did rattle a little, which is caused by the tire carrier pin not securely pressed down in the rear. I went to [@] and picked up a $1 rubber tube clamp in the plumbing dept. and spray painted it black and it works great, and saved me about $400 on the next name brand tire carrier. It fits my 35x12.50x17s just fine. Also, it does give the appearance that it's leaning back just slightly once installed, but it's an optical illusion due to the cut of the roll bar.
The bumper was a little hard to install, but it is sturdy and fits my needs.
I do most of my offroad in the woods and on extremely rough, muddy, wet and nasty trails, I go places most wouldn't take a 4x4 wheeler. This system will keep from damaging the tailgate again. I run a 35" superswamper and they are really heavy for the tailgate' bent it regularly.
The bumper and tire carrier are beefy. Mine doesn't rattle, and has a good overall fit on the rear of the Jeep. The biggest con is the installation. There are plates that go behind the frame to give the bumper more stability. The plates need to be about 1/16 inch shorter on the inside to give you room to adjust the bumper enough to start the mounting bolts. The way the plates are now, they fit so tight there is no wiggle room and the bolt holes will not line up. I took about 1/16 off the end with an angle grinder and everything mounted up without issue after that.
Clean look, the only issue I had was the old jeep owner had welded the old bumper on... oh well the new one is on right!
Replacement for rear bumper and hitch assembly damaged in rear end collision. Body shop installed, so don't know how difficult or easy it was. Looks good, but receiver is angled down. Anything plugged into it hangs at an angle instead of sitting level
Installed in 1977 CJ7. Required drilling 8 new holes in rear cross member. The tabs on the bottom of the bumper designed to bolt on the rear shackle mounts are in the wrong place for a CJ. I had to cut them off grind them down approx. 1/8 inch on each side to fit in my HD currie shackle mounts, then re-weld them on after fitting the bumper. I am very happy with the end result. Another problem is the tire mount extra part they want you to buy to mount the tire because of the 5x5.5 mounting pattern of a CJ. It is very well made, but when you mount it, it makes the tire not touch any part of the "triangle" swing away. This is because a CJ requires 3.5 inches of back spacing on the tire rim. The adapter is approx. 4 inches long. so the tire is almost 4" away from the upright. Still solid, but...
The hitch and bumper are very nice quality, looks great too. There is only one hitch, pun intended, the back of the bumper, the mating surface to the frame is not flat. The hitch tube and weld beads protrude out from the back mounting plate. Causing it to hit the frame and a 1/4-3/8ths inch gap in the middle between the frame and bumper, and also causes the inner bolts to barely penetrate the threads making it a very weak mount to the frame. Poor craftsmanship to say the least in this aspect. But is my only complaint about the bumper. I would recommend, but with warning about the hitch tube issue, as I will now have to remove the bumper and modify a brand new bumper, in order to fix the issue so it will mount correctly.
Great bumper for the price. Installed it on my 94 YJ. Had to partially drop fuel tank to slightly enlarge 4 factory mounting holes in the frame to get hardware to line up. Bumper comes with metal template for hole location, this was a great help. 10 mounting bolts assure a solid and strong assembly.
The advertising says it bolts on with no modification. The instillation instructions say that older TJ's (1997-2002)will have to have two holes drilled in each side of the frame to bolt the bumper on. The hole thru the 2" receiver is metric size. A standard 5/8" pin will not fit, and a 1/2" pin has lots of slop. The hole will need to be drilled out to 5/8" to properly retain any standard 2" drawbar or accessory mount.
Strong heavy bumper, although mine came scratched. It mounted up ok on right side but holes on left side did not line up, 3/16 of an inch off, boring out the holes was required. Also after install spare tire rubs on bumper.
