Awesome! Easy set up and comfortable

Installed on 2012 FJ with Baja Rack. Southeast Overland did install and good job. Tent is amazing, very comfortable sleeping with two adults and Jack Russell Terrier. First nigh was 32F in Asheville NC and very comfortable, even up/down ladder for bathroom stops. Very snug and secure, easy to pop up/down. Heavy cover and rack make no wind noise on rack versus un-usable FJ OE rack. Putting back down takes one person about 10 minutes total. Foam mattress is incredibly comfortable, best night sleeping, no movement when rolling around, very stable. Second time left open moon roofs with screens, really awesome. High and dry, no cold, bumpy ground or messing around with stakes. Be the envy of every campsite! Next stop: Outer Banks and no people!

Awesome Tent for Family Camping

We purchased this tent so that we could have something mobile and easy to setup with two young kids. We figured that instead of spending upwards of $3000+ for a smaller tent, we would get this for when the kids are young and plan to upgrade down the line. It is a great entry into camping and overlanding for the price.

Love our roof top. Camp on a regular!!

Love the XL roof top. Easy setup other than the awning part. Keeps plenty of people dry with plenty of space. Wish the mattress was a little thicker. I purchased a pad and leave in it when folded up.

3 years and 100 nights

I've owned this tent for just under 3 years and have slept in it just under 100 nights. Not only that, but I've move camp almost everyday when I'm out overlanding. That's the real test. Folding it up - setting it up. That's where wear and tear comes in. It's held up great. No issues. Keep it clean, spray some waterproofing on it once a year and don't abuse it and it'll last many years! To answer the obvious question... If I spend that many nights out why not a hardshell that sets up much faster? Because all hardshells are about 83 inches long. This tent is 95 inches long. If you're tall (I'm 6'10") you'll kick the door out of the little hardshell in your sleep.

Great tent!

Tent works great, much easier to set up than originally thought it would be. Looks to be very well built. Definitely a two person job to get the tent on the roof but that was the most difficult part. I suggest also packing a small ladder or a step stool which makes set up/tear down at the camp site much easier. Would buy again and recommend.

First of Many Camping Trips

Wanted this tent for awhile. Installation was a breeze and it sets up in a couple of minutes. It makes my Jeep a little top heavy, but I drove it (and ferried it) all the way to Orcas Island for a camping trip and it was great. The airflow was amazing - on warm nights it was cool and on cool mornings it was warm. And the pad was good enough that all I needed was my sleeping bag. Going to get a lot of use outta this tent.

Roof tent.

I put this on a 2022 Bronco Sport with the Thule cross bars. The whole thing fits perfectly and is easy to set up. I’m pretty heavy, and had no issues climbing up the ladder and setting up the tent from the inside.

Happy camper

We are happy with our purchase. The tent is big. Easy setup. 5- 10 my max and you are ready to camp. Initial installation was a bit of an issue because the instructions were not that clear, a quick YouTube search and done.

Smittybuilt RTT

It’s built a lot better than I was expecting for this price range. Very light considering it’s size.

Awesome Tent

Great Value! This is my first RTT and I was not a 100% sure that I wanted a RTT or a topper for my truck. After much debate I went with a bed rack system and the SmittyBuilt RTT. It meets my needs perfectly.

Great tent

I got a 1st Gen Rtt by smittybilt as a starter. My girlfriend and I wanted to start camping and start making new memories. We both work a lot, so our schedules don’t always allow us free time. This tent was inexpensive and very easy to put together. We absolutely love this tent. It’s extremely comfortable and very spacious inside. It’s held up very well after 3 trips. Im not sure how it’ll handle in extreme weather, but it handles just fine in Southern California. I’ve only used it for summer trips, but I do have fall/winter trips planned and I don’t doubt it’ll keep us safe and dry.

Newbies

We've just spent our first night in the tent. So far love it! Easy to install, comfy mattress, the ladder takes some playing around with to get the right height and have it comfortable to use. One thing we did not account for is we put it on my Tacoma which we bought a bed rack for. The height of the rack is 12" above bed rails. This did not leave enough clearance from the cab to install one of the poles for the fly. This is not against the tent but just something to know is if installing on a bed frame, the frame must be as tall as the cab.

Love this thing!

Very strong and stable. Setup instructions are a bit vague, but can be figured out. Highly recommend setting up at home first, to figure it all out. Being able to open the top and having a view of the night sky is amazing.

Perfect Overland Tent Topper

Perfect Overland Tent Topper for your Honda Pioneer. Craftsmanship was well thought out and heavy duty material. All hardware came with to mount on your ride. The added weight didn't affect the ride in off cantering positions nor can tell its up there. Do have to keep a mindful of low hanging branches since it adds 14 inches to the height of the ride. Comes with a 1-1\2" bed pad we added another 1-1/2" with it and its very comfortable. The telescoping ladder was a super upgrade from the original design and makes the entire tent platform very stable. Only draw back is the tent will sweat and in the morning you will beed to open all the windows and dry it out which doesn't take very long . First trip out was a 3 day trail ride and having this made is so much better than having to drive all the way back to camp or crawl into the back of a small suv. It opens up so many new possibilities with camping spots then ever before. Were very happy with the purchase. Good job smittybilt.

Fantastic Value for an RTT

Update: I have completed a 4 month overland trip plus lots of weekend trips with this tent being my main habitat. Overall it has held up really well, showing the build quality and attention to detail. Im really impressed considering the price point. Major downside is the rain fly design. The way its setup, it will catch wind and direct it right in between the cover and tent. So any gusts greater than 20mph and the whole tent shakes and rattles which makes sleeping impossible. Decided to switch from my Big Agnes standard tent to an RTT when overlanding with hopes that setup would be easier and i could camp on rougher terrain comfortably. Installation: extremely easy, the versatile mounting options will bolt onto pretty much anything with a little bit of creativity. I have mine mounted on the Smittybilt Defender rack. It took about 2 hours by myself, with help it would be even faster. Setup and use: Setup is fairly simple, alone it takes about 10 minutes since you have to run back and forth pulling straps and velcro. Once everything is released its easy to pull on the ladder and flip the tent open. Then another 5 minutes to put in some of rods to vent. Its tricky to install the rain fly on tall vehicles, you can do it from the inside but it takes time and isn't fun when raining. Once setup the tent is surprisingly stable. I was a little concerned the hinge that folds the tent in half would have some flex and bother me but absolutely nothing. I installed an extra 2" foam padding (Queen size stuff fits well) and its pretty comfortable.
