2012 WARN REAR BUMPER INSTALL 2012 FJ

This is an awesome bumper made by WARN. I installed this 2 days ago on my 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser. I have backup sonar in my factory bumper, and all the hardware trasferred over with relatively few problems. The only problem I had with this transfer was that the holes cut for the sonar sensors were oval in shape, and my sonar sensors are round in shape. About 5 minutes with a small dremel tool with a small bit designed for cutting metal fixed this. As far as the brackets go, they are extremely easy to understand. I did not have to use the directions to figure out what went where. The Warn rear bumper fits extremely tight to the FJ frame, which is a good thing, (its built right) so expect to have to put a lot of muscle into it when putting it on and taking it off. We found it useful to have 1 person underneath with a prybar and another person on the same end jerking up and down while pushing in to get it on. We had to do this around 6 times, because you have to trim off some of the trim from your old bumper to be used (dremel worked like a champ) and we would trim a little, put it on, and find out that we need to trim a little more off because the bumper wasnt flush with the body of the FJ. It took us about 6 times of doing this just because we were extra careful. (I didn't want to over-do it and screw it up) There was 1 bolt on each end of the bumper that was almost impossible to get to. We ended up having 1 guy on the end of the bumper with a ratchet with extensions and 2 wobblies, and the other guy just inside the end acting as the "eyes" for the other guy because theres not enough room to put your fingers AND the socket in that spot so the guy with the ratchet is flying blind with 2 wobblies on multiple extensions. After we figured out that trick, those 2 bolts only took us about 10 minutes to tighten up and we were done. My backup sonar works great, I just zip tied the wire loom up in spots because there are no clips or anything on the warn bumper to hold the wire, but there really isnt a need for any because most of it is protected inside the bumper and cant fall out, and I only had to put a couple zip ties where the wire was hanging down where it goes from the end of the bumper to where it plugs into a connector on the FJ. I am really happy with the overall appearance and quality. I did some very mild off roading with my stock plastic bumper on right after I bought my FJ brand new, and one corner of the stock bumper popped out and some of the clips broke that hold it in, I couldn't wait to get that thing off... Only con I have is that the backup sensor plug cut-out was oval instead of round... but it was super easy to fix and I'm guessing that maybe the older FJs were oval so it probably works great for them so I really have no complaints. This bumper is built right. Heres a helpful hint, before install, take off your spare tire and the mount as well as the backup camera.. Its all real simple to remove and will give you extra room for the install. Overall- Sturdy, attractive, simple, tough. A+ Good luck! Forrest
