Blows Gen 1 Away!

For the price, you can't beat this winch. Works great everytime, and I KNOW I can count on it. The synthetic rope means it's light and a ton safer than steel cable.

AWESUM

EASY TO INSTALL,LIGHT WEIGHT,LOTS OF PULL POWER,SYNTHETIC ROPE VERY FORGIVING AND EASY TO WORK WITH PLUS VERY STRONG-LONG AS ITS NOT MAJORLY OVER LOADED BUT EASIER TO REPAIR IF BREAKS HAPPEN THAN STEEL CABLE.

Learn the trick with engaging the drive

Fits and looks great with SmittyBilt bumpers ? I have the XCR The winch arrives in gear, which makes it easy to roll in the chain/rope initially. It then moved easy to neutral in order to manually pull some slack. Next I could never get it back into gear. Fortunately a 4wd store is nearby and they were able to finagle it and show me the trick. Thank you 4wd Tampa! There are only a few spots on the gear rotation that allows users to turn the engagement handle 100% from neutral to engage. Trick, while in neutral ? power the winch either in or out in small increments. With each stop/partial rotation, try to turn the handle to engage. Some stops will allow you to 90% engage, but I recommend ensuring you 100% to minimize any undue stress/slippage with the teeth.

Great winch BUT

I have had this for a couple years. Used it many times on self-recovery and helping others. Warranty is great. Cut rope once, my fault, replaced no questions. Have had a pin break in controller twice now. Beware: moisture gets in controller plug socket making pins weak. Still covered under warranty, so not a big deal.

Great buy

Easy to install & looks great. Seems very solid after first use. Only negative the winch controller is so big it?s hard to hold naturally and still reach the togle switch.

Good Winch

I have not needed this on the trail as of yet so only gave it 4 stars. All wiring was thick and sealed to make it waterproof. I was missing some bolts but was able to grab some at the local hardware store. So far great winch for the price. Please keep in mind I am in no way a hardcore rockcrawler.

Defective Instruction- Caution!

The glossy "Installation Manual" was entirely missing the mounting instructions, and is essentially useless from cover to cover. Also not covered: rope loading procedures. After installing front and rear SRC bumpers and this winch over the weekend, i now understand that Smittybilt just does not include useful information in their installation and user guides. Just installed on an SRC bumper. Fortunately, I was warned by the vendor to mount the winch prior to mounting the bumper. It is not possible to install this on an SRC bumper that is mounted on a Jeep. Unforunately, I was not warned to connect all of the wires prior to mounting the unit. If you mount this to a bumper like mine and don't have all of the wires connected, be prpared to re-do some work. Overall, it seems like a fair piece of equipment for the price.
