Reviews: Smittybilt Tent Awnings

I have been considering an ARB awning for some time, but the price kept me packing my folding canopy and wrestling with that every time we wanted shade at the beach or trail head. I stopped by the Smittybilt display at the Dallas Jeep fest where they had their jeep setup with the tent, awning, generator, etc. I picked it up for the special show price, but after getting this home and installing it, I would have paid the full price for it. The materials are top notch, and this fit easily on to my Gobi roof rack. They give you about 5 options for mounting, so I fail to see how this wouldn't work on every rack out there. I put in up and down by myself in under 10 minutes, I think with another person, you could get this thing setup in 2-4 minutes and put up in 1-2 minutes. I have not had this setup in winds over 25mph yet, and likely with most awnings, would not recommend it. I think the only thing I have to nit pick about is I think I would strap it down to my roof and bolt the awning on once I am at the trail, It sticks out a little far off my jeep for my personal liking on the highway. Keep up the great work Smittybilt, and thanks 4WD as always on the great product and sales.

Quality product that is easy to open and stow. Comes with all the necessary hardware and mounting brackets for an easy install.

Great awning for much cheaper than the competitors. I’ve been through 30mph winds and even was hit by a powerful dust devil but that still didn’t barely shake it.

The awning materials are good, the stitching looks good, the extended arms and legs also looks like will last. Overall, i think this awning will be a great addition to our set up, will provide shade as good as other awning with twice the price tag. I think Smittybilt allow many of us enjoy the outdoor in style without braking the bank.

No regrets. I went with the 8 foot wide in order to cover part of my rear doors. These guys make good stuff

This is my first vehicle awning, and I have to say I'm very happy with it, especially for how reasonable the price is. I attached it to my Rhino Rack, and it is a great companion to the rooftop tent. Setting it up is a breeze with two people, and was challenging for one person, at first, but once I figured out my "strategy" for getting the legs and poles out in the right order, I can easily set it up alone. I guess this is a keeper, so I'm going to get the mesh room next!

I bought this awning in March 2022 and used it 2 times. The awning provides awesome shade and was easy to setup and tear down. The second time, there was massive wind and it blew the awning legs upward while I was trying to set it up. It bent the aluminum backbone arms and bent the bracket (really strong winds). I was able to bend it back some and tie it down with the tie downs. Once tied down, it was super strong. I called Smittybuilt to try and purchase new arms and brackets since the wind broke it and unfortunately they do not sell spare parts for it. So if the bracket gets broken or something breaks (not the fault of the item) you cannot buy spare parts for it. It does come with a one year warranty and Smittybuilt is sending me a brand new awning as a replacement so that was awesome but wished they sold the parts separately in case of breakage that is not the fault of the manufacturer. Smittybuilt did provide me with excellent customer services and a great warranty.

This awning doesn’t need the poles deployed unless the wind gets severe, but I love how the fold into the joists so they are there if I need them. It creates a great space to cook or lounge out of the sun, everyone hangs out at my rig when it’s hot outside. The price was an amazing value compared with the OVS unit, and the legs on that unit hang down and don’t stow away cleanly. Really good quality, and matches my gen2 tent.

Awning is great and easy to set up. Love the quality.

Had this on my RAV4 and now its on my Teardrop trailer. After 18 months of use, its still a great awning for under $200.

Too bad we can't buy this type of awning that is made in America....Smittybilt needs to step up....

E Z attachment, great construction and simple to use.

I love it. I take it everywhere I go. Came with all the hardware. Be aware though: I’m 6-feet tall and it’s 8-feet long, set-up by yourself could be tricky because of its size and my lack of reach, but it’s do-able. Having a partner helps. I still love it though!!!

This Smittybilt awning is t.i.t.s! It has kept me dry, withstood hurricane winds, and is super easy to set up/take down.

For the money you cannot beat it, haven’t tried any other awnings but this thing works great. Used it 12 nights in a row on an over landing trip, it held up to rain, snow and had some seriously High-winds in the desert but you just have to tie it down and angle it and it works fine. I would absolutely recommend.

I really enjoy having an awning for getting out of the elements . When I got my gen two The box was pretty beat up , it had no hardware or instructions . I sourced my own hardware , got it mounted and works as it should .
