Smittybilt GEAR Tailgate Cover

Helps save space, keep gear in one place and looks good.

Works great to store hunting and range items

Looked like a good way to store ammo, tools and other necessary items. It mounted up easily in about 10 min just be careful drilling the holes because there are some thick spots on the tailgate and I broke the bit. Definitely would recommend to anyone needing cargo space.

Drill bit recommendation/ Screw durability

Drilled recommended size before installing fasteners and 2 of the fasteners still snapped. Drilled a size up from instructed size and had no issues.

Works great, looks really cool.

Works well. I keep my booster cables, some ratchet straps, etc in one, and some emergency stuff for my dog in the other. Keeps the back of the Jeep nice and organized. I'm docking one star because the screws that are supplied are phillips (star) head, and they struggle to go into the drilled holes before tearing themselves up. I ended up walking 2 blocks to the hardware store and paying $8 for some same sized Robertson (square) metal screws, which worked really well.

Great storage for the cost.

Product is exactly as described. Great storage solution for a 2 door JK.

Good worth getting

Good easy installation. I used rivits and instead of screws. Only issue was the door hinge mount but barely a issue. Good addition storage

Looks great

I like how it looks and cleans up the limited trunk space a jeep wrangler has. There are how ever things I would like to see improved sugh as nutserts or something better then sheet metal screws, and less molle straps the little pouch has 5 makes it less detachable or reattach able for those times needed.

Nice Addition

The big item is the alice/molly attachment point that you screw into the tailgate. I found it didn't quite fit square on my TJ. Specifically around the tailgate's catch mechanism. I made it fit and I'm very happy to have a place to attach any Alice/Molly style bags.

good organizer

the product is very cool, it looks great, works great, and it is very well designed, but it came inside a box folded in half, well y couldn't make it to stay perfectly straight again, even installed there is a little bump in the middle I couldn't fix.

Great! Install a little difficult

I purchased this for my boyfriend and he loves it! It keeps his jeep organized and he no longer has tools rolling around in the back. He broke a drill bit trying to get the screws through the metal but that was the only issue he had. Would totally recommend to any jeep owner.

Good product well made

Very good product well made. Provides storage in my TJ that has little storage. Only problem is the screws the come with break easly. I solved that by useing self tapping mettal screws.

Good Product for the price

Product is good for holding items. Wish it would have secured better than drilling holes and using screws. Have more room on back panel, might see if they sell other bags to mount to it for extra storage.

Decent, with a few minor flaws

I got this because I have compatible gear and use this Jeep for camping. Product is decent, but let's focus on the minor stuff and hope the manufacturer reads this- Screwing into the metal of the tailgate is required. Some rubber grommets would be good to make a better seal where the screws go in. Even a small tube of e-6000 or similar would do the trick. Also, 1 or two screws in the center of the panel will help from the overall panel sagging from the weight of attached items. Two bags are included. The first one was a decent sized, single compartment bag - ideal for supplies. The second was a small 3-segment bag that's not ideal for the job. I suggest two big bags, and some tac-ties or similar thing to anchor loose items. So if you have MOLLE gear laying around, this is the way to go. There is nothing else like it.

GEAR Tailgate Cover

The GEAR Tailgate cover is great. The bags are nice and the overall quality is great. Now the screws are poor! Two screws broke while trying to secure the cover to the tailgate even after making pilot holes. It would be best to have 4 Wheel Parts install since it is tough to install tight.

Great accessory for added storage

The bags and tailgate cover are heavy duty and should withstand any abuse you can throw at them. Both bags are removable and can add significant storage space for tools, off-road recovery gear, etc. If you need more space to store goodies in your Jeep, I think this is the cheapest and easiest mod for your rig. My only negative was the cheap hardware. The small self-tappers were not tough enough to dig into the thick sheet metal on the bottom of my JK tailgate. Don't even mess around with a 7/16 drill bit, since at least an 1/8" is required if you want to try and use the included hardware without stripping out the threads. I reccomend getting some heavy duty hex-head self tappers from your local hardware to avoid any installation issues.
