This is my second one and it is great But be careful when you have it open to add gas I pulled on it as I removed the noozle and broke the door It worked fine for over 2 years Just use care when fueling
I needed a way to secure my gas cap because the kids in my apartment complex seem to like them more than I do. I am on my 4th replacement in the last few months. I have had the locking gas caps fail on me several times in the past and they were a pain to remove. The locking fuel door is the perfect solution. I love it. The installation was super easy as the locking fuel door is just a cover. You remove 4 screws, place the fuel door over the gas cap, and install the 4 replacement screws. The only con would be the type of screws used. I would like to have seen security torx used instead of a regular torx screw.
The door fits my '06 perfectly. I was expecting a little bit of a fight to get things to line up, but it went on like it was OEM. It took me longer to unbox it than it did to install
Looks great, feels solid and easy to install. Had to give it 4 stars because it comes with 4 tiny phillips head screws that are supposed to screw into the predrilled holes on the extremely small lip..I can't see how that is going to hold it in place long term since there really is not a hefty bite with the screws, guess time will tell.
Like others have said, this product is definitely simple to install (even if you do not own a set of torx bits, Rampage gives you a direct fit wrench to get this job done). The hatch fits directly over the factory plastic housing surrounding the area - But does not fit plush to the body of the vehicle - which is completely fine with me given the price and simplicity of the install. When I say it's not plush to the body, IT IS VERY CLOSE, but not *plush* if you're a perfectionist. Bottom line is this product looks like it will definitely deter a theft from attempting to steal a few gallons of gas, but if the thief really wants the gas they're going to get it. The lock mechanism feels like it's doing its job (but it still doesn't feel rock solid if that makes sense?) For the price and quality I do think this part was worth the purchase and installment on my Jeep. I'm happy with it.
The tiny screws used to secure this cover to the plastic filler will not self start. I tried a hot pin to make a starter hole but that didn't work well. I then used a very small drill bit to just roughen the surface without drilling through the plastic at each of the filler door cover's mounting holes. That gave the screws enough of a bite. Because the screws are so tiny you will need a jeweler's Philips screw driver.
Always liked a locking gas lid, but this is better and it looks great!
Not fancy, but good quality. Best price I could find (compared to other brands). Replaced my damaged factory locking fuel door without a problem. Ten minute install (including opening the package and removing the old unit).
It looks better than factory gas cap and is some what secure
