Great All Terrains

I loved my mud tires, but decided for something a little more practical and I'm loving these Mickey Thompsons. Great traction on and off road, much better handling on wet roads and a bazillion times quieter. They are heavy, so they might not work for everyone, but I'm digging these.

Tires for a Goat

So far, the best tires out of the 4 I've tried, I 4-wheel a lot, and I wheel just as many hard trails as easier. I love the 3-ply sidewalls, no more ripping through the sidewalls, though I keep my tire pressure at 18-20 psi off-road, We do not have slick rock, no need to go lower on hard rock. The edges are also holding up better the mud terrain. So far the weak spot is the edges, but I guess that's to be expected rock crawling. So far, I'll buy them again!!

Surprisingly capable!

Purchased these in a 285/75R16 for my Xterra with a 4in lift. I've put 20k miles on them in the last 13 months. That has been largely on pavement as this is my daily driver in VA, so they have seen many miles of highway, rain and even 16in of snow on pavement. I've also attended/hosted about 25-30 trail rides/off-road events in that time where they've seen thick mud, rocks, sticks, sand, thick snow, ice and even temps in the teens. For on road use I keep them at 32-34psi (chalk test) and off road they are at 16psi. I rotate the tires every 3750 miles and the inner 3 rows of tread blocks have dropped from 18.5/32nds to 15/32nds, while the outside tread blocks have dropped to 12.5/32nds. They have held up very well in my opinion. I am pleased with the wear. In addition to that their performance for me off-road has been better than I could have imagined. In thick mud they clean out nicely. In big rocks they grip well and pull me over anything I can get them on. In thick snow they get traction and pull me through. On road has been pleasant as well. I have not hydroplaned once with these tires. They handled our snowy winter roads here and on trips up north (PA) with no issues. They aren't great on pure ice, but what tire without studs is. Only one place have I had to winch up where someone else got up with no issues (slick red mud on a hill) and they were running Super Swamper TSLs which have their own compromises. The sidewall durability is spectacular. While I've seen several friends lose a tire over the last year to a sidewall or tread puncture I have gone on the same trails and still have all 5 tires with no punctures anywhere. The treads have only lightly chunked at the corners of the tread blocks, which is spectacular considering the amount of rocks I've driven them over. The rubber compound really does appear to be both durable and high traction. My only complaint would be the sounds they make in turns which isn't super loud but is a light hum over a standard AT tire. Also I think I feel some sidewall flex in turns, which could be alleviated by a higher pressure but then my contact patch would be poor in this application giving me poor wear. Overall these small negatives pale in comparison to their performance in every way I've tested them both on and off-road and I've been very pleased with them.
