After some minor exhaust leaks from the stock system, I decided to replace everything from the manifold down on my 06 TJ. I installed the Magnaflow exhaust front, upper, converter (whatever you want to call it) when I replaced my oil pan but I did not install this or the magnaflow performance cat to complete the system, although that it would be easy enough. That said, with all components, I definitely notice a slight increase in performance; it puts a little more hoobastank on the acceleration. Dat sound tho: Flowmaster says, "moderate deep powerful sound outside with minimal interior resonance" which I immediately knew was an exaggeration given how thin and empty a TJ is, especially when you don't have a bench in the back, ever, so I took it with a grain of salt and gambled. My previous Jeep was an XJ. When the exhaust got some major leaks, I had a custom straight-pipe made, sans muffler. THAT had a mean growl but didn't want my TJ to be quite as loud since the top and doors are almost always off, weather permitting (and sometimes not). When I picked it up and started it, it didn't give me an immediate erection and perma-grin like my Harley did BUT...it sounds good. At first I found it slightly too loud, drowning out music a bit, but after a week I think it's actually perfect. Its got a nice little growl but not as deep as I was expecting from my XJ experience; it reminds me of the tuned Subaru boxer engine tone a bit. If you drive a manual or a bike, you'll get some nice decel popping which always brings a smile to my face. The only gripe I have of the system is how the exhaust tip (which has a great paint job on it) angles up at the back instead of coming straight out. It annoys me enough to consider having it re-bent, if that's even possible at this point. Overall, awesome quality, great sound, and lil boost in performance!
This exhaust was exactly what I was looking for. Simple install, took about an hour. Needed to cut 13” off because I have a short bed. Borrowed a chop saw and it was an easy cut. Turns down right before the rear axle and sits nice and high out of the way. Not something I thought about before the purchase but it decreased a good amount of weight from the stock exhaust. I was afraid this exhaust would be too loud but I was pleasantly surprised with its tone. Nice and deep but not outrageous. Very satisfied with this purchase.
Supper easy instal. Exhaust sits up high & out of the way of rocks. A bit loud in the cab, but with a short pipe it was expected.
Simple bolt on install. Be prepared to cut stainless steel pipe if you have the short bed. I love everything about it. It definitely has a bit of drone on it but I tend to like it.
This isn't a truly difficult install. Does take some patience and some muscle. Overall, quite happy with the fit and sound. It is louder and deeper than I expected. If you are looking for a hidden, deep-toned garage install...This is it.
