Now that the dust has settled, we had a chance to sit down with Jason Scherer and get to know him a bit better.

Jason, tell us a little bit about yourself:

Hi, I’m Jason Scherer, often known as “Schererererer.” I’ve been wheeling and dirt-biking since I was 16 and started competition at the rock crawling comps in 2001. I’ve run 15 King of the Hammers, I have 8 Podiums and 3 of those are wins. I’ve also won multiple rock crawling championships as well as the only Triple Crown of Off-Road involving the Rocks, Desert and short Course. I just love to drive the hard stuff and push myself.

Let’s talk about the King of the Hammers. What classes did you race?

I race the unlimited class, which is the 4400 class. I’ve also raced UTV class as well as the stock once and loved all of them.

Tell us about your car. What makes your car special?

My Race Bronco is the newest build in the class and it incorporates all we’ve learned over the last 20 years. It has big Ford Performance power, Portals from 74 Weld, a custom SCS transfer case coupled with a 4 speed transmission so it has no selectable low range but goes from rocks to 141 MPH. It also has some really bad ass Live Valve Shocks from FOX that basically have in-car adjustability for all terrain types. They are game changing. We run 40” BFGoodrich Tires on Vision forged wheels and ride in carbon fiber Sparco Seats, we have a WARN winch we use regularly and run full synthetic Redline Racing Oils.

How did you do this year at KOH?

We finished 2nd but considering we had a bunch of little issues with the new car it was a great run. The takeaway was the new car has incredible speed, we just need to refine it and it is game on!

What’s your favorite part of racing the hammers?

We’ve led the race 12 times – it is a feeling like nothing else in the world. It’s like the best of the best are chasing the rabbit and you’re controlling the pace and can’t make a mistake.

What’s the most challenging part of racing the hammers?

Both financial support as the technology drives cost but also the prep on the race truck.  We have the best guys on the lake bed and that’s what I’m most proud of when we race.  My team is unselfish, without ego and the best on the lakebed. I race hard each time for them to be proud.

What do you have coming up?

I’m basically getting the car prepared for testing at the Hammers again and again. I’m planning on running mock races 3 times to get the car sorted, inspect between runs with full teardowns and get myself and the team ready to win this sucker again.
