2022 Ford Bronco Two-Door First Test

Many may remember the nostalgia of the 1966 Ford Bronco, a marriage of style and substance. Fortunately, Ford has decided to pay homage to this model with its 2022 Ford Bronco two-door. If you’re looking for a vehicle that can smoothly traverse the city and then move into off-road mode at a moment’s notice, the new 2-door Bronco is an excellent option to consider.

You can tell that the makers embraced what this vehicle is capable of by the trim names: Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, Wildtrak, Everglades, and Raptor. While competitors like the Jeep Wrangler put up a good fight, the Ford Bronco two-door model is a viable choice and deserves your attention.

Features Of The 2022 Ford Bronco Two-Door

The 2022 Ford Bronco two-door comes with a host of notable specs. While some of these are standard in today’s automobiles, many provide the opportunity for the Ford Bronco to create a unique driving experience you won’t likely have with competitors:

Exterior

The Ford Bronco marries aesthetic with practicality. It looks attractively rugged with nostalgia-inducing headlamps and removable roofs and doors. Depending on the trim you go with, you could already have LED lights and fog lamps, ideal for those dense forest off-roading trips or late-night drives.

As with other off-roading styled vehicles, the mirrors are not connected to the doors so that you can still see who’s coming if you decide to remove the doors. Also, taking down the roof is as simple as undoing a few latches.

If you decide to keep the roof on, know that it can support up to a 150-pound load. And you can customize the Bronco to include a modular front bumper, brush guard, roof rails, and bash plates.

The beefy SUV’s 2.3L EcoBoost engine packs a punch for those city runs or off-roading adventures. However, you can upgrade to a 2.7L engine. Ford also allows buyers to add on an engine block heater, ideal for drivers living in colder temperatures.

Power and Handling

The new Ford Bronco two-door excels in power and handling, and it gives drivers options that can enhance the driving experience.

For example, while the base Ford Bronco two-door model comes with a 7-speed transmission, you do have the option to upgrade to a 10-speed.

Also, depending on the trim, you may already have access to the vehicle’s trail turn assist mode makes it easy to make those narrow turns as it allows drivers to lock a wheel to pivot seamlessly. The base model also comes with hill descent control and hill descent assist for that tricky navigation through hilly or mountainous terrain.

This mid-sized SUV also packs a punch for hauling as it can tow up to a 3,500-pound load. Quite impressive for a two-door SUV of this size.

14 2021 Ford Bronco Interior and Dash

Interior

The evidence that this vehicle is built for the elements isn’t just on the outside. From the dashboard to the steering wheel, the car’s interior is covered in thick rubber.

So, whether you’re tracking in mud from that fishing trip or have a drink spill, the crucial parts of the interior are shielded. Drivers can also expect both cloth and heated seating, depending on the trim. However, where the new 2-door Bronco stands out is its infotainment center and how it can further enhance the driving experience.

While space is a bit tight in the back, you can expand cargo space if you have no passengers by putting down the seats and using an under-seat cubby for storage.

Drivers can use the impressive 12-inch infotainment system screen and wide camera angles to see what’s up ahead on the road. Additionally, infotainment features include voice command, zone lighting (the ability to turn on all lights simultaneously), and the capability to seamlessly switch between eco, sport, slippery, and sand terrains. Mud, rock, and Baja drive modes can be added depending on the trim.

Lastly, Ford also understands the potential needs of its clientele as the dashboard includes mounts for a GoPro camera, a nice extra touch!

And to top it all off, while the base model comes with a lot of bells and whistles for off-roaders, drivers can purchase the Sasquatch package, which includes 35-inch tires, a HOSS 2.0 system, and other turn-key off-road features that allow drivers to push this car to the off-roading limits. Nevertheless, drivers can still enjoy the car’s baseline off-roading and a nice batch of off-roading features without the Sasquatch package.

Should You Buy The 2-Door Bronco?

Are you looking for a practical off-roading vehicle that can seamlessly switch to on-roading without sacrificing performance? Then the Ford Bronco two-door is a great option.

It marries sophisticated tech with ease and practicality and even has sharper handling than its competitor, the Jeep Wrangler. It also beats out its competition in cargo size, as it almost has double the cargo volume to seat area as the Jeep Wrangler.

However, one of the main — and potentially few — downsides of the Ford Bronco 2-door is the wind and road noise. You likely don’t get a quiet ride if you’re driving in the city. Still, it makes up for this shortcoming in many other ways — including its well-made infotainment system, rubberized interior, and various driving modes.

Whether you choose to buy the Ford Bronco two-door will depend on your specific driving and hauling needs. If you don’t mind sometimes choosing between cargo space and bringing passengers along, then this car may work for you. It’s a return to form for Ford, and it shows that prioritizing ease and practicality can genuinely improve the driving experience.

Final Thoughts

The Ford Bronco 2-door is an excellent vehicle for those seeking a safe, reliable, and versatile option. It can provide that fun and rugged off-roading experience while still delivering a powerful on-road driving session.

Again, this car doesn’t have the largest interior and will likely be a noisy ride. Still, it allows the driver to customize their driving experience, which other competitors may be missing out on.

Whether you’re looking for a reliable SUV for those spring or summer camping trips or want something that sparks that retro-feel while heading to the grocery store, the new 2-door Bronco makes both — and similar — experiences possible. It’s definitely worth a look.
