Reviews: Spectre Cold Air Intake Kits

I found several things wrong with this kit. to begin with I pretty much had to cut up the 3" aluminum intake piece and the one that routed cold air from the cowling to the cold air box into multiple sections. I then had to purchase addition pieces of Spectre products from a local auto-parts store so that I could reassemble the tubes to make it work. I found that the angle of the ends of the tubes were off by several degrees, so if you fit for example the tube to the Throttle body the other end was at the wrong angle. In addition to the angles of the ends of the tubes being off the lengths were also wrong. The Cold Air box also did not fit without a lot of bending and adjusting the box section, the bolt holes lined up so that was a plus. I had to bend and move a lot of AC lines and wiring connections to make the box fit. The box its self came no where close to sealing off the engine compartment so water crossings are going to be a bit problematic. The stock box design is way better than this design. I plan to weld additional plates onto the box to actually seal it in place where it will function as it should. Even with all of the Engineering issues the one thing that troubled me the most was the fact that the manufacturer had left metal shavings and tiny little aluminum shards in the tubes. They were lightly adhered to the inside surface of the tubes. They most likely came from the manufacturers cutting and fabricating operations. If I hadn't spotted them and removed them they would have ended up in my intake and heads. Poor QA/QC procedures.

Looks good to match color of truck and easy to install. I noticed a difference when I took it out on the road.

Easy to install and noticed a slight difference in power. Only real downside is since its metal it gets really hot.
