Heavy Duty

I really liked the looks of this bumper. Having read the reviews I knew it was going to heavy (over 200 lbs) but I wouldn't want anything less to hold my spare, gas cans and Hi-Lift jack. Be prepared to spend a couple of hours with a friend (see heavy) to install this bumper. I didn't have any issues with the packaging or delivery and the powder coat and welds all look to be a good quality. The mounting holes and brackets all lined up with no problems. Every piece of hardware was included in the package. There were no issues installing the tire carrier to the bumper either. Being able to hook so much stuff to this bumper and not having to have in the Jeep with me is what sold me. A 37" spare, 10 gallons of gas, my ever trusty high-lift jack and a class III tow hitch. It looks really good and I haven't had any problems or rattles to speak of after 2 months. Couple of things I would say are : Get a drop hitch a 37" tire takes up a lot of space. When you adjust the latch do it with full fuel cans. Overall I am very pleased with the quality and fitment of this bumper and would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade the rear bumper.

Great bumper

When first installed it was tough to open, had to push and lift. With driving the gate / latch settled into place. I keep the latch lubricated with WD40 spray white lithium grease and it is easy to open. Love the bumper!

It's worth the weight in what it provides.

Well built bumper and carrier. I like the departure angle, highjack access points and all the mounting options on carrier. This bumper is very heavy, but it is worth its weight in what it provides.

Great rear bumper

Matches front bumper as designed, completes front and back appearance. Installation of main bumper was easy, adjustment of tire carrier was not as easy as I thought, it took a few times to get it right. Gerry-Can bases are not given a lot of room from actual bumper. Adjustments are very tight. Swing away tire rack is very much worth it. I can wash the rear window and tailgate much easier. I purchased the storage Cans for tools and winch accessories, works well. Very happy with purchase.

I love it

I'm recovering from cancer treatments from 2015 , but I installed the entire bumper by my self in less than two hours with hand tools only. From start to finish was a simple process. It is a bit heavy , but there are a lot of advantage's . Some jeeps may require stiffer springs after a full load of fuel in both cans .

Just installed...

I just spent the day installing this beast... it comes in two boxes, both marked two man carry... It is hard to handle due to weight... but heavy and stout is what is expected and wanted... I put it on single handed using blocking (4x4's stacked, tieing it off to the vehical and two garage jacks...) it fits well, but a sledge hammer and wood blocks do wonders when installing it... A second person would be of great help... Believe the instructions that say not to tighten things until all bolts are in... the hinge pin is tricky, but makes sense as you fit it... The hardest part was bolting the hinge pin for the carrier... I didn't use the factory nut with weilded washer and wire handle in favor of a plain nut held with needle nose vice grips. I spent about 5 hours dropping the old bumper and hitch and installing the new... I had extra bolts on hand... I needed one nut. You need wiring supplies to extend the harness for the third light... I haven't yet installed the jerry cans or jack... The my spare hangs lower on this bumper, giving better visability... I have preiviously installed Smittybuilt modular front bumper and side sliders... Like those you are fitting something to factory mount points and it may be hard to pull and push the new parts into place... like those there is a strange mix of metric on the jeep and US/SAE threaded bolts... I am very pleased with the results...

XRC Atlas

I love this bumper and tire carrier. It definitely takes a couple helpers to install but it's not overly difficult. The latch is well designed in both form and function. The hinge for the tire carrier is adjustable to accommodate various weights or tires etc. If you are going to keep the gas cans full you will want to account for that when adjusting the hinge. And as said previous, you will need some grease for the pivot point on the carrier (none included). I am running a budget boost 2.5 inch lift and once the bumper, tire carrier, and spare where installed I lost a lot of height due to the weight. Ended up having the trim the rubicon rock rails and the body behind it to keep from rubbing. Not a huge deal because I want to upgrade the suspension system. One note: I had an issue installing the wheel studs into the mounting plate for the spare, use caution and don't try to pull them in using a lug nut. The torque needed to do so will strip the whole in the plate. I had to tack weld them in place. I don't believe this is a design flaw, more my bad mechanical practice. Overall I'm very happy with the setup and have already recommended to others. Also: I bought this from the Forth Worth store location. They are good people, and always helpful.

Great Product

I have driven with the bumper on for over a month now and really think I got my monies worth. The one complaint I am working through is the electrical line for the third brake light. I understand it is an easy fix, but if an extended cable was provided in package would make deal complete.

Nice bumper with plenty of features

Like most Smittybilt items, it's very solidly built, but needs some tweaking to get it in place. The bumper comes in two boxes on a pallet. One contains the bumper and it related hardware. The second contains the carrier. The instructions pictures are black & white and sometime difficult to see what they are trying to show you. But the instructions reference hardware that is part marked on individual bags. The bumper took a little wiggling, but went together easily enough. The carrier was almost as easy. Some things that were out of spec and required reworking: Lock pin is too short and required a washer between it and the bumper, the cam that adjust the closing, the holes did not match up the ones on the bumper and required enlarging, and the hitch pin hole required enlarging because of the paint. Other than that, I didn't have any other issues installing. It closes easily and does not rattle. When ordering this, call and find out if it is in stock. It took 8 weeks for this to arrive.

Bumper/carrier

Make sure there’s no excess material on the carrier nut. Had to clean mine out before it would thread. Seems alright though. Goes to edge of rear tube fenders for good protection

Great design!

I have one on my ‘09 JK 2 door, and I plan on getting another for the ‘17 4 door I’m picking up in a week. I carry a 35” tire, my Jack and when I go out on the trails I carry both jerry cans full of fuel. It’s the only one with these capabilities.

Assembly of the bumper

This is a good solid HEAVY bumper. It is definitely a two person lift if you do not have the right tools for assistance. Instructions are not as easy as they sound. I do love the bumper! Just make sure it’s adjusted properly.

Solid

This bumper has been on my jku just over 4 years now, and overall has been great, yes it’s adjustable, which is nice because I have had to adjust it, does need greased and lubed every month or two so if you can handle that it’s not bad at all, has been carrying a 35” tire, jack and one full jerry can 60% of the time, and 40% of the time 2 full jerry cans, it does rattle a little but planning on doing modifications in the future to work that out
