Awesome Tent for Family Camping

We purchased this tent so that we could have something mobile and easy to setup with two young kids. We figured that instead of spending upwards of $3000+ for a smaller tent, we would get this for when the kids are young and plan to upgrade down the line. It is a great entry into camping and overlanding for the price.

Love our roof top. Camp on a regular!!

Love the XL roof top. Easy setup other than the awning part. Keeps plenty of people dry with plenty of space. Wish the mattress was a little thicker. I purchased a pad and leave in it when folded up.

Happy camper

We are happy with our purchase. The tent is big. Easy setup. 5- 10 my max and you are ready to camp. Initial installation was a bit of an issue because the instructions were not that clear, a quick YouTube search and done.

Love Love Love this tent.

Bought this three years ago and we've used it pretty thoroughly, though still not as much as I'd like. Construction is solid, which pleasantly surprised me given the much lower price compared to the better known RTT brands. The only corner I feel they cut was the mattress, the foam for which pretty much deflated within the first year. Called 4WP and they exchanged the mattress for free even though mfgs warranty was over. Couldn't be happier. Even with the new mattress it was a bit too thin. Bought an additional 2" king size foam mattress on amazon and put it on top of the stock mattress. Now we have 4" of foam to sleep on and it's heavenly, if a bit hot during the warmer months. My biggest advice if you're a first-time RTT buyer: 1. Rig up some sort of early warning system to remind you the tent is on the roof so you don't destroy it driving into a parking garage. 2. Always let it air out before you store it. Moisture will mold it up VERY QUICKLY, but if you're diligent about airing it out, it'll keep that new tent smell for a long time.

Love this thing!

Very strong and stable. Setup instructions are a bit vague, but can be figured out. Highly recommend setting up at home first, to figure it all out. Being able to open the top and having a view of the night sky is amazing.

great tent

I have had this on top of our rig for a few years now; I didn't want to review it until it survived a few seasons here in Colorado. I have used it in the 100 degree desert heat of Moab and the 0 degree temps of 13,000 foot alpines in Colorado. It stays on top of the xterra year round and has survived 100's of trails and two winters with absolutely no flaws. I am buying my brother one for christmas...its that good.

Great Adventure Tent

I have had this tent for a year now. My family of 5 have slept in it 62 nights so far. It has worked well in every climate and condition thus far. I have used it in the Arizona dessert, mountains of Utah, and New Mexico, as well as the cold winter climate of Michigan. The only advice I have is that it does collect condensation on the roof when there is a lot of people sleeping in it. So, either open all the windows in the morning to let the air dry it throughout the day (I?ve done this in temps from 35-100 degrees) or have a towel on hand to wipe it dry if you are going to pack it up early to leave.

Great tent at a great price

bought this tent in May and it is AWESOME! The set-up is not very difficult and it has held up to some torrential rain too.

Great value

I have been looking for a rooftop tent for about a year now, and everything I learned led me to Smittybilt. A great quality tent, priced right. 4wheelparts made the process easy with free shipping and excellent online support.

Great part of trailer build

I camp a lot and usually like to have a base camp and then hit the trails so installing the tent on a trailer so you don't have to break camp each day is a big plus. I used the Smittybilt XL tent as part of my trailer build. The tent is awesome. The only issue I have is there is no instructions on how to install the poles that hold open the flaps or how to hold open the doorway flap.

Smittybilt XL Overland Tent

Best value RTT on the market! The construction and design are amazing and the added LED light strip is a huge bonus.

We love it!

We've spent 6 nights between three places already. Loving our Smittybilt XL tent! You will want to add the Annex with this tent as it gives you most of a privacy area along with keeping your stuff out of the weather and not stuck inside your Jeep!

Overlander XL tent.

Great tent for the family to use! 4 of us fit in there with room to spare. The included mattress was a little on the thin side for my Wife and I, so I added a 2” thick memory foam topper for added comfort. Setup and takedown are simple and can be done by myself. I’ve added some exterior lighting and a motion sensor LED light inside of the veranda for the late night bathroom trips. I just ordered the annex for it but it has not seen any use yet. I’ll leave reviews for it after we use it up in Michigan’s UP later this month. Overall it’s a great product that will be enjoyed for many years.

Great product

This rooftop tent exceeded expectations and doesn’t break the bank. When it is all closed up it holds heat in well and can be used in cold and windy weather with no issues. There are plenty of vents for the summer heat as well. The size will fit three adults comfortably. Money well spent.
