Reviews: Bestop Instatrunk Kits

I recently purchased the instatrunk for my 2007 JK. The 5 stars are for the item and not the instructions. I like the instatrunk and it works well. It’s not designed to be a safe a (there are other products that fit that bill and at a higher price) or waterproof. I knew what I was buying and I’m pleased with how it works once installed. The instructions are of no real help. Luckily it was pretty easy to figure out by looking at the diagrams. I’d recommend this product to anyone looking for light to medium security for their Jeep.

This was easy to install, and provides a decent level of security. I wouldn't consider it to be as good as a regular trunk on a car, but it keeps things out of sight and not easily grabbed by passers-by. In order to make it secure, one must disconnect the power lock in the tailgate so that it can only be opened by a key -- otherwise someone could unlock the tailgate by reaching into the Jeep and pressing the power lock button. The foam edging they provide is annoying to put on, and doesn't stay very well.

I got this for my son's soft top TJ. He has a lot of stuff that he needs for school and athletics that we didn't want to come up missing. This seems like it will handle all of his secure storage needs. The hardware that came with this was a little bit cheesey. There is a flare tool that broke during installation. Overall it is good though.
