This 16-gauge steel overhead security console has one lockable compartment for mounting a stereo, CB Radio, Speaker or other electronic device. The compartment door swings up flush and latches open. The door is secured shut by a double bitted 10 tumbler lock with built in weather seals. A bolt in stereo mounting tray makes installing a DIN mount stereo or CB radio a breeze. The console is expandable to fit between the roll bar and windshield. Mounts to factory holes, no drilling required.
I was unwilling to place a 2-way radio on top of the dash, or under the dashboard, as there just isn't a lot of room in a TJ Jeep anyway, so being able to mount the radio's up in an overhead area and not have it take up leg-room and/or headroom from either the driver and/or passenger was paramount to the decision to purchase this Overhead Console. I haven't installed it yet, and I will post another review after using the Overhead Console for 90-days or so with a Ham Radio, Export Band Citizen's Band Radio, and a Midland MXT400 MicroMobile GMRS 2-Way Radio all three mounted and working independently from the Overhead Console...
First, works as advertised with caveats. Chassis swivel up and down (also slide forward in final closed state). Not watertight, not even on the top. I used a spray on sealant after rain got into the storage. Poor mounting configuration for stereo/CB units. No real chassis mount for standard single DIN stereos. Rattling while driving. The swivel mount bolts need to be loose enough to 'swivel', but that leaves play for vibration and noise. I also recommend using lock-tite for these bolts. Cable routing - The ports for cables line up mostly on the roll cage, blocking the ports. Finally, don't forget you'll need to route your FM antenna all the way up there if you relocate it.
Overall this is a good product. The price is crazy high. This is mostly due to the lack of competition. Drilling was required to mount a full size CB. A smaller CB will require some sort of drilling as well. The security features make it difficult to run wires out the back so this requires drilling as well. If you don't mind moding a brand new item this is for you. I feel that it provides great security for my CB.
Easy to install does exactly what it says.
Easy installation. Very adaptable. Can mount just about anything electrical in it. Heavy duty. Excellent powder coating. Cleans great too. Tweeked it little to put in a bigger CB, Air band scanner, and still had room to secure other items.
Looks nice, easy to install , strong.
Used for cb, space saver.
Cable routing is good. Not waterproof (buy some black caulking). Comes with screws for footman loop but no footman loop (needed if you have a center strap bikini since the front of the console uses the front windshield footman loop). Plan on some time for fabricating you own brackets to mount your CB. The standard CB bracket did not bolt in easily. The console box is about 1" too short for larger CBs due to the CB antenna cable connector. Perhaps a 90 degree CB cable adapter could be used. Screws are plain zinc (silver color) (I replaced them with rust resitant stainless steel painted black) in color and does not match black paint on console.
Q: Can this be used with the factory hard top on a 2015 JKU? Will the front freedom panel lock for the footman loop still engage? Answer this question

Q: My question is I'm 6'3.........will I hit my head when offroading? Its hard to see from picture if there's clearance. Answer this question
A: Rango, Thank you for asking. The Tuffy Security Single Compartment Overhead Security Console is no wider than a CB radio you should have the clearance to avoid any head bumps, but while your wheeling anything is possible,

Q: what are the inside measurements of the container? I want to put a CB Radio inside and need to know if it will fit securely inside. Answer this question
A: Thanks for the inquiry. The opening of the Tuffy Overhead Security Console is 7 1/8" (180mm) wide, 2 1/8" (50mm) tall , 8" deep. I would recommend the Cobra Compact CB Radio here http://jo.my/6cyne0 as it's compact size would make mounting easy.
