I have standard 255/70R18 tires on my vehicle and a 2 inch receiver hitch that attached the same as the factory tow-eye. When the carrier is installed, a little pressure must be applied to the upright against the tire for it to fit. I haven't noticed any degradation on the sidewalls from vibration. Also, when the carrier arm is rotated to the down/level position the rear door still cannot be opened because the brace in which the upright sits still rises about 2 Inches or so above the bottom of the tire. The carrier did an excellent job securing and carrying the bicycles.
This is a good rack but you will need to purchase a drop hitch adapter to lower it so you can open the back door. Sits too high to open without the adapter, needs to be a 4 inch drop.
It's very well made & sturdier than similar racks. When folded, it doesn't clear the tailgate of my 2012 jk Wrangler 2dr (not lifted).Someone mentioned a drop hitch would solve that problem. I definitely recommend this especially if you don't want the racks that hang directly from your spare.
I bought this several weeks ago, but just today had a chance to put it together. It seems very sturdy and strong, but I am concerned about the threaded pin/bolt that holds the receiver for it in place. The clip at the opposite end of the bolt head seems flimsy like it has the ability to pop off. I wonder if there is a better way to secure it??
