Add a tire carrier to your new Smittybilt Gen2 XRC/SRC Bumper to get bigger spare tires on your Jeep. This new tire carrier design bolts directly to the new XRC/SRC Gen2 Bumpers, and includes Roto Pax and CB antenna mounts.
I bought this tire because it mounted to the frame through the bumper and is also bolted to the tailgate. It is timed to open with a one handed operation. The Rotopax mounts are a nice extra. But with most wheel offsets plan on purchasing a wheel spacer to provide clearance. You will also need a vertical hi-lift Jack mount, if you want to use that option on the carrier. Overall very pleased with the product.
4.0Overall a good item
Solidly built tire carrier. Losing a star because the included instructions are awful and there are LOTS of leftover parts. also, you're going to need a wheel spacer (or two) to mount a wheel that doesn't have a real deep backspacing. Otherwise, easy to attach a hi-/lift mount, rotopax cans and accessories. Looks great, feels sturdy.
3.0Good option that needs redesigned.
The instructions for install are horrible. Even looking for help and solutions online, the overall consensus is that it's impossible to install as intended. There is a lot of rattle once installed. Tried adjusting many time without much differences. I love the overall look of the design and features but seems like the engineering could be thought out better. Plus trying to mount the trail jack with their included system seems to be just as confusing with online forums.

Very sturdy. Heavy but in a GREAT, solid way. So much better of a solution than just throwing a 35 Spare on the OEM tailgate.
Love this thing, took all the weight off the tailgate.
4.0XRC Gen 2 Tire Carrier Installed myself
Solid and heavy, no rattles. Finish is great. Instructions were a little difficult. Will not fit a stock wheel, will need to purchase a specific spacer/mount for the spare tire. The wheel studs are a pain to install and you will need a press, ball joint press, or some type of vice to get them all the way installed. I had a sagging tailgate and this lifted it up. One open Operation is easy And works as advertised.

I went with everything Smittybuilt with the hopes that everything worked well together. I liked the design of this carrier because, 1st it swings with the rear door (great feature). 2nd I wanted to be able to mount two gas cans (Totopax) behind the spare as advertised. No such luck on item 2! I've done a bunch of work to finally get two cans mounted behind the tire then to realize that the steel provided by the manuf. is not straight. back to drawing board for fabricating mounts. (drives me crazy when things are not straight) also tried to contact Smittybuilt to find out how they might have been able to get a rotopax to mount to the their setup. No response to emails or voicemail. I have just outfitted a new JK with pretty much everything they sell and for the money I have invested you would think customer service would want to keep me happy. Nope! I like all of the XRC product designs but because of the lack of support from Smittybuilt, i'm done with them
