5.0Comparable to other 2000 winches.
Purchase the Smittybilt XRC Gen1 front pumper and the XRC Gen 3 winch for my 2020 Jeep Rubicon unlimited. Everything fit well the winch control box must be mounted on the included side mounting bracket. The control box wires just loop down and back up to the attach points very tight fit see included photos. Also the winch must be mounted on the forward bolt holes.
4.0Great winch for the money!
Rope came with the permanent shackle/hook. Had to use a cut off wheel to remove it and then install a factoid 55 one. Install was straight forward, used it to pull me jeep out of a mud pit, worked great! Didn’t even hesitate while working.

Great winch ! tried this weekend and help a Gladiator in the mud with no problem.
Which one lasts longer, the steel cable or synthetic rope? I just bought a new 2021 JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with the steel bumper group and am going to get a 12k lb. winch but wasn’t sure which system has the best longevity and durability?
Answer this question
Synthetic rope is a great product for many vehicle recovery situations. If you winch a lot and are concerned about weight, synthetic can be a great option since it is lightweight and easy to handle. It doesn't develop sharp burrs like steel rope, and doesn't store as much potential energy when under load. On the flip side, synthetic rope is more prone to abrasion, and should be regularly inspected for frays or other damage caused by UV, chemicals, and overall use. And when using synthetic, you always want to lay down the abrasion sleeve when needed to guard against rope damage.
Steel rope is extremely durable, and is good for both vehicle recovery and utility work, such as moving trees, rocks, etc., since it resists abrasion very well. Ultra-violet wear is also not a factor with steel rope, and it may be a better choice for you if you don't frequently use your winch. Steel rope is heavier than synthetic, can develop rust, and can also develop sharp burrs. This is one reason why we always recommend users always wear heavy gloves to protect their hands while handling the rope.

I have the 12K with synthetic. Regular cable would last longer but the synthetic is so much easier to deal with. But it’s really personal preference. Either way you will be good.

Both cables will last just as long, it depends on how you take care of them. Both will fray if you scrape them against rocks. The rope is lighter and safer for use, if the line was to ever break, it would fall to the group instead of snapping like the cable. My personal preference is the rope.

I noticed in the pictures, that the hook is not removable, but then the next pictures shows that it is. Can you tell me what is what?
Also, where do you run the power for the LED "running" light?
Answer this question
(1) Picture is inaccurate - you must use angle grinder to cut hook off. (2) if you have the 4 added power switches on you JEEP run the LED to the accessory wire in this bundle (located on passenger side inside engine compartment). Else, run this to the running light wire located in front of the air cleaner powering the passenger side headlight.

The hook is removable comes uninstalled in the box. As for the running lights, I guess that is personal preference.. I don't care to have it constantly on and have it wired into my warn power interrupt so the running light is only on when the winch has power.

There are two contemporary powered winch types used today – electric and hydraulic. An electric winch obviously uses energy from the vehicle’s battery and the engine’s alternator. Hydraulic winches require energy from the engine’s hydraulic power steering pump.
An electric winch is exactly as its name suggests – it is electrically powered by the vehicle’s battery. The engine’s alternator replenishes the battery with electrical energy. An electric winch does not need the engine to be running, but without the replenishment of electrical energy from the engine’s alternator, a winch can quickly use up the stored electrical energy in a single battery. This is why many off-roaders and overlanders keep their engine running while winching, upgrade their vehicle’s stock battery, and add a second battery with a dual-battery isolator or computerized battery minding system. Regardless of whether you have a single or dual battery set up, electric winches need extreme deep cycle batteries, while your vehicle needs a battery with lots of cranking power. To get both features, you’ll need an exceptional battery. The battery brands Odyssey and Optima fit this category. Buy the very best battery you can.
If you purchase an electric winch for your vehicle, upgrade the stock battery to a deep cycle battery with lots of cranking power. Also, always connect both winch electrical cables, positive and negative, directly to the battery. Do not connect the negative cable to ground on the frame.
When winching for extended periods of time, an electric winch has an Achilles heel – its motor. This component can fail if you don’t pay close attention to the heat build up while you winch. Electric winches don’t have a 100 percent duty cycle (like a hydraulic winch) and need a rest occasionally from their work. This “rest” allows the electric winch cool down and build up an electrical reserve in the battery from the engine’s alternator.
Of the two types of modern, recreational powered winches – electrical and hydraulic – the electrical winch is by far the most popular. More companies make recreational electrical winches than hydraulic. There are also more models of electrical winches on the market. This is because electrical winches are the best choice for the majority of off-roaders and overlanders. First, compared to hydraulic winches, the installation of an electrical winch is less intimidating to most home garage mechanics. Second, electrical winches are more ideal for leisure and occasional users. As a recreationalist you don’t typically need to winch an extended period of time. Typically, you will pull yourself out from a stuck situation or over difficult terrain and move on. However, if you need to winch for hours on end, then perhaps you should consider a hydraulic winch.

I would assume that bumper has the universal winch mount, so again to assume this would work. The only thing is it comes with a permanent shackle on the winch line, I cut mine off to put a factor 55 one on.
