Smittybilt's all new XRC Armor Flat Armor Skins for Jeep JKs are manufactured from 3/16 inch cold roll steel, and are hand crafted to insure a perfect fit every time. Each Flat Skin comes complete with everything you need to install these guards on your Jeep, including stainless steel hardware and detailed installation instructions. They are finished in a black powder coat and can be used with our XRC Armor Rocker Guards.
The front fenders were pretty extreme to install. However, the rear were super easy and didnt take a whole lot of time. Now, when installing the front everything comes off, the old fenders, cowel (break spot weld), wipers all the way off, etc.... the instructions that come with them are meh... very basic ... but they do have a smittybilt number u can call if u get stuck. Overall the look is amazing. U will have to paint a little on the pieces that dont get covered up by the new fender. If u have cladding on u will have to remove the front piece and the back piece u can swap out for the shorter piece that sits at the back fender. Nonetheless, worth every second!
I've installed a couple of the XRC body armor kits (full kits, front, rear, rockers) and in both instances the rear panels have been distorted and required some bending to get them to fit properly. I have seen another jeep with a very rusty set of the same armor (chunks flaking off) which makes me wonder whether the paint/coating includes a suitable rust protection layer. I have so far only had surface rust on my kits (and I have been vigilant with a can of rust-o-leum at the ready).
These fenders come with very indescript instructions. They send a bag with 3 different size screws and don’t tell you which screws go where. They also send a bag of 3m shaped foam and don’t tell you where that goes. You will need to install them and mark your holes and uninstall them to drill your holes and put in your nurserts. You will need a nutsert tool. No doubt about it. Also DV8 hood latches will not work with them. The ones with the small little heim joints and push pins. They are to big. Also smittybilt has no idea themselves on installing these. So no need to call tech support with ?s. A how to video would be nice and definitely better instructions.
These fenders look great but are not without blemishes. The install instructions are horrible. Which makes an average joe installer with some experience fumbling around all day. Doesn’t tell you which screw or nut are for what. Doesn’t talk about drilling and cutting a bracket on the fenders. And didn’t have mounts for the angel eye led lights. At least my set didnt have anything to mount them. They’re smaller than the housing. Still wondering what to do with them. So far they’re zip tied. Have my led angel eye fender light hooked up to the running lights. Have not hooked up the fog lamp part of it yet. Might just run it to a switch. You really need to know what you’re doing to put these fenders on your Jeep. I’ve done radio, alarms, back up cam, dash cams, auto starts, and etc and I was still struggling with this set up. You will need to do drilling and cutting which it doesn’t really state when you purchase these fenders. I am happy with my purchase bc they look great on a Jeep. I just wish the above mentioned were better handled by smittybilt. This xrc gen 2 fenders really deserve a thorough how to video.
Have the proper tools available. Using your own strength to crush cert nuts is nuts. Bending, twisting half crushed.
A little better tolerencing and instructions would make these a 4 star. Very tuff and they look pretty good too. Nutcert installation is critical! Make sure theyre crushed all the way. I used the nutcert tool and the included diy tool as a back check.
Love these went on very nice, my only grip is the instruction are not very helpfull and make sure you get the mut insert tool its a must...
It is exactly what you order. This is the best price you will find, even lower than eBay and Amazon. They look amazing, fit great, and add needed strength to your jeep.
Q: Does these fenders include the lights or are they sold separately? Answer this question
A: They came with the lights, don’t make the same mistake as me and get these for a 2 door jk. The fronts fit a 2 door jk but you I won’t be able to get the rears to match because they are actually for a jku

Q: I have installed these but can't find any liners that will completely cover the exposed rear wheel well and front. I bought fender liners but you can still see a significant amount of color under the fenders. Is there anything designed to pair with these? Answer this question
A: I just used spray on black rock guard to cover the painted areas.

Q: Where do you put the license plate after the install? Answer this question
A: The license plate mounts to the same location using the factory hardware. I did have to modify the factory license plate mounting frame where the molded piece that covers the light meets the body to accommodate for the angled steel from the armor conflicts. Pretty easy modification with cut-off wheel on a grinder or sawzall.

Q: How wide are the fenders with the extensions vs. With out the extension? Answer this question
A: I can’t give you an answer on the measured width, but my 38x15.5s on 2 inch spacers barely stick out with the flares on. They’re plenty wide

Q: It says in the discription an inner fender liner is provided but the customer photos don’t show any. My question is whether or not it includes a full inner fender liner To protect the engine compartment from the elements. Answer this question
A: The inner fender that is included is only for the armored fender portion. For the front most people reuse the stock liner and trim it.
