Top notch for the price
The fit and finish is superb. I tested it out the first day and it dragged my Jeep across the dirt, no problem. For the price, I don't think you'll find a better winch.

Controller pins are horrible.
I have had many winches in the past. Figured I would update to the new 9500 gen 2. That's was bad idea on my part. I am now going on my 4th winch in since September. The first winch the ground bolt came off as I was removing the nut with my fingers. The second winch on the first use. I went to use it to recover a friend and had no connection to the controls. When looking at the pins I found that two of the pins had pushed their way flat to the housing so they cannot make contact with the controller. The third winch on first use I used it to move a tree that's was in the trail worked beautifully.... 10 min later it really failed me. Out on a right ride and found my self stuck in a freshly plowed field. Got out to connect the controller to find again no power.. Standing in a foot of mud at night I immediately looked to see if the pins were clean... The pins were clean but again 2 pins pushed down to the bottom of the housing.. Left me again with no power... Unuseable! It's unexceptable for smittybilt to put this kind of junk out to market.. It's made for looks not use... I will be returning this on again! Don't waste your time.. The one time out of three winches I got to use it it pulled ok...

I would definately buy this again
I had a smittybilt xrc8 previously and was a great winch, only had one minor issue with it. But I wanted to upgrade to the gen2 for more pulling power and the waterproof qualities because I spend a lot of time in water. So far so good on the new xrc9.5, it works very well, quicker line retrieval, more power, very reliable, and you can't beat the price.
I have a Warn Rock Crawler front bumper on a 1987 Jeep YJ. What mount do I need for this winch?
Dave from Anaheim, Ca on
Thanks for the inquiry Dave, the Smittybilt XRC-9.5K Waterproof Winch Gen2 part # S/B97495 you'll need part # WAR21390.
from Anaheim, Ca on
Are any additional brackets needed for installation? I looked at Harbor Freights Badland Winch which does require a mounting bracket.
Tim from on
The S/B97495 does not come with a mounting bracket. Typically the winch would mount to a vehicle specific winch bumper. Smittybilt does also offer a universal winch mount cradle that the winch will mount to and then the cradle will mount into a 2 inch receiver hitch. The winch cradle is part # S/B2811. The 8ft winch quick connector kit is
part # S/B35220 and the 24ft kit is S/B35210. Thank You for your question.
