Smittybilts fender flares are produced for you in a textured UV stable ABS plastic. This ABS plastic is strong enough for the trail and looks good enough for the city streets. Its durable construction allows it to be flexible without cracking. Bolt it on or paint it first to match your Jeeps paint job. Minimal drilling may be needed for proper installation.
1.) The instructions say to place all screws and spacers on the flare before aligning to the body. The rubber spacers are not tight enough to stay on, and half the spacers and screws fall off when you try to place the flare. 2.) There is a very large gap to fill with the spacers. In my case, two spacers really don't fill the gap and when I tried to use three spacers on each screw the flare couldn't handle the extra pressure needed to compress the spacer a little and the screw punches through, and you're sad. Besides, there aren't enough spacers to place three on each screw. In fact, I really don't see the point in using spacers at all. 3.) In places, in order to close some unsightly gaps between the flare and the body, I had to tighten some screws a little more and the screw heads simply punched through the plastic. 4.) I found that the screw heads are a little too small to spread the pressure needed to install. I used the supplied washers directly under the screw heads to help spread the force. I have to buy more washers. 5.) Some of the decorative screw caps are not "clicking" into place and won't stay on, so I think I might have to glue them on as I do not want to fuss with them any more. 6.) Some drilling and filing was needed as the holes don't align in a few places. In the end, I ordered black hex head screws with matching washers and used those instead of the hardware supplied.
I bought these fender flares for my TJ. They are cheap garbage, the fit sucks (require trimming to fit) and the screws pull through the holes.
I love the new flares, great looking product. I do wish the instructions had better graphics however.
The look good but the fit was not all the great on the rear fenders at all they were a pain to get on. I had dug the screw further into the side away from the hole making it higher just to get the rear to fit
These are OK if you install with a good set of body washers and lock nuts don't over tighten the bolts and they will last, let them move around a bit when your done with install.
These are okay for the price and maybe because they are imported is why the fit is not exact. I had to file out the lower mounting holes on the rear which resulted in not being able to retain the screw cap. Other mounting screws have pulled through the plastic which requires you to use a bigger washer and not overtighten. Would recommend to a friend with the above caution.
Product looks great, and installs to body well. The screws and plastic washers provided are too small to hold the flares to the body.I had to replace with my own washers. (so a double installation).
