The Smittybilt Tent Annex easily attaches to the Smittybilt XL Overlander Roof Top Tent to provide additional room and privacy when you need it. The annex easily attaches to the overlander tent in minutes using durable and rugged zippers. Made from the same durable polyurethane impregnated polyester, this annex will hold up under the tough conditions expected in overland exploration, and is the perfect addition to the overland tent when extra room is needed.
Tent was excellent quality. Purchased the annex as well the zipper was sewn in backwards. I have to turn the zipper around on the tent platform going from the cover to the annex every time. Customer service with Smittybuilt sucks. Would not replace the annex or cover said that was just the way it was.
The annex worked great, however it seems like the zipper on top that attaches along the overland tent fold seam was sewn on backwards.
Instructions were easy to understand and the tent installed without issues. This was my first roof tent install and it took a few hours but we figured it out. The only issue I have is there not much instruction on the awning that hangs out ladder on the front of the tent. I was able to get it assembled with a second person and an extra ladder, but I’ve tried to find some videos on if it’s possible to collapse this awning into the tent when I fold it back up and it seems like it should fold in but I can’t figure out how so I had to take it apart. The mattress is pretty comfortable but I think I’m going to buy an extra mattress pad for it. The USB LED strip and the 12v adapter and extensions cord work great!! I have this on top of my NOBO 10.6 and it’s a bit hard to put some of the rain fly poles into the drilled holes in the tent frame.
This adds so much more space to the overlander tent. It's an awesome place to be able to keep gear in and or just be able to stand all the way up without having to get out of the tent. I'm very happy with both the overlander xl tent and this annex. I would recommend it for sure.
It’s great in many ways. Fits great. Keeps wind from blowing up into the tent. Gives me a place out of the elements to take off shoes and other dirty clothing.
Great quality! The annex where it meets the frame have velcro ends to help seal it from bugs and weather very nice little detail.
Great added room to our Roof top tent. It gives us room to put the kids in the lower part on cots while camping as a family.
We do not use this every time we camp but it sure is nice to have when it suddenly rains and your friends in ground tents need a dry place to stay.
Q: My annex did not come with a zipper. What size zipper do I need to use. Answer this question
A: Which zipper are you asking about? The main zipper is sewn into the top of the annex, there should be a zipper in the hinge part of your RTT that will zip into the annex.

A: Mine came with one However, the main zipper on the tent needs to be pulled out and flipped around to attach the annex

Q: I am making a overland trailer with Gen 2 tent mounted... How high is the recommended height off ground? Is there a range it would work? Thanks. Answer this question
A: 78”

A: I would say around 5” if on a trailer to help with aerodynamics and gas mileage. Now if you are using the Amex it would have to be a few inch’s above the tallest person head that will be using it. Hope this helps you.

Q: How far is it recommended to space the cross bars to mount the tent? Answer this question
A: I put then as far as I can but keeping atkeast a feet of tent’s base on both ends. This setup is what turned out ideal for me

A: For the 2683 tent it requires a minimum of 3 cross bars evenly spaced to properly support tent. The two outer crossbars must be between 37"-57" apart with an additional crossbar in the center.
