REDARC Electronics is an Australian electronics manufacturer established in 1979. It is headquartered in Lonsdale, South Australia, an industrial suburb south of Adelaide. REDARC products can be used in vehicles that use battery power – such as cars, boats, rail, trucks, mining equipment and buses.
I really like the product, with the caveat that I wish it had a bit more lithium battery management functionality, specifically an ability to charge up to 80% instead of 100%, to increase battery life as much as possible. The installation was just okay, the cork layer on my pickup bed platform was returned with quite a few black smudges, evidence that no protection cover was used during work. I suppose I should have planned for that by providing the cover, but anyway. The total cost was high, $900, for an easy installation with no extra issues cost me $500, the charger itself was $400 (high for most chargers but acceptable for a solar priority, dual-source charger.)
4WP Sparks, NV was excellent in helping me acquire this item. I live in CA and this item for some reason is banned here - go figure - so I couldn't get it through my local 4WP center (even though I only plan to use it when outside of CA :-). The manager was kind enough to hold it for me until I was able to get to Reno/Sparks to pick it up. I finally got it installed and it works perfectly as advertised. It's very compact and fit nicely in the underside storage compartment in the back of my Jeep JLU. Allows for much lighter gauge wiring from the front to back when installing an aux battery and electrical components in the back end of the vehicle. I also discovered that it only requires a body ground so I could have saved myself some $$$ and space had I not already ran both power and ground wires the full distance. First test in just a 25 mile distance driving my back-up battery charged from 12.0V (I had been using it to test my newly installed ARB Twin Compressor) up to 12.5V. Seems to do the trick and with Solar options this should work nicely for those off-grid adventures (in neighboring states of course...).
This is the highest quality on board 12v to 12v battery charger ever made ! This is my second one from Redarc and now I can literally charge enough lithium batteries using the solar inputs to run a camp big enough for several people off the grid. No need for a generator to run several dometic portable refrigerators. Thanks to Redarc.
It works great with my Redarc BCDC charger for my dual battery system. I use it with a momentary switch to jump my starter battery or to link the two batteries while winching.
