The Goodyear Wrangler MTR With Kevlar tire has an asymmetrical tread design and the DuPont Kevlar reinforced sidewalls promises to be a contender in the hot MT tire market. Goodyear says using Kevlar increases sidewall toughness and puncture resistance by 35 percent. It also helps reinforce the sidewall for on-pavement driving. The asymmetrical tread design looks directional, but Goodyear says the tires are NOT directional, can run either way and have been tested that way. For those who don't like white lettering, the new MTR with Kevlar might disappoint, as many sizes will have white outline lettering. That means white outline letters out, ready to be scraped into white sidewalls by rocks. The larger sizes up to 42 inches, will have black lettering, so that will be fine. The silica tread compound enhances wet traction and the durometer seems to be between the old MTR and the sticky comp tires Goodyear has built. The rubber feels soft and supple when doing the old twist and fingernail tread test (scientific test procedure). The Goodyear MTR with Kevlar is a very competent tire and worthy descendent of the Wrangler MT and MTR.
I have MT/R 315-75-16 on 8" rims. I run these on a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. This is my review of the first 5,000 miles.
The 315/75/16 tire is my choice as I wanted a smoother ride off road and more ground clearance. If you go with the 315/70/17 you will sacrifice about 1" of sidewall height and therefore at least .75 in of actual ground clearance (when you figure aspect ratio and rim height).
Tires are very quiet for the type of tire that they are. Noise is not bad in the vehicle at city or highway speeds
Tires are very stable at the factory recommended tire pressure which is 35 pounds and when off roading I run them at either 12 or 18 pounds depending on the expected terrain. Even at the lower pressures (of course reduced speeds) the tire has virtually no slop in it driving straight, or around corners. At 12 psi the tire wraps it's self around rocks, tree stumps, pot holes etc. for excellent traction. I have done a couple hundred miles of mountain climbing in the Arizona desert with these at 12 PSI and the loose shale trails still give me no problems and the lugs have only minor cuts to them from the rocks. Of the 5,000 miles I have traveled so far about 500 miles have been off road, 3,000 miles of in town and freeway driving (regular 65 MPH but I have had these over 80 MPH with no issues), and about 1,500 miles of towing behind my motor home. Really hard to judge tire life at this point. Looks like I am down to about 16/32 to 17/32, which seems like too much as new they started with 19/32 but my gauging may be off, or the tires may wear more quickly in the first half of the tread.
Bottom line very happy with these tires so far and the extra clearance that the 315/75/16 gives me on my jeep lets me laugh at big rocks, boulders, tree trunks, large pot holes, etc. (also note that I put a 4" lift on this rig with these new tires).
Will update review at 10,000 miles

Poor quality assurance
These tires[...] are very wobbly. They have major bulges that make it look like the wheel is coming off the jeep. The tires are not equal on all 4wheels. some good, some terrible. I have had KM2's and should have went back to them.

Great tire! Just switched from my Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radials to these on my '97 GMC Sierra K1500 4x4 with a six inch Pro Comp lift. The difference is night and day! Maintains a balance well, handles well on the freeway at 80 MPH (especially for a tire in this size: LT31575R16 with a load range of D!) and for the 1,000 miles I've ran them thus far, no visible signs of wear yet. Very pleased with this product. Great job Goodyear! You guys made the mark with this tire!
