If you're looking for no-compromise performance and traction for your off-road vehicle, G2 Axle and Gear's full spools are just the ticket. The 85 Series' spools feature CNC-machined 4130 billet steel to provide rock-solid strength and light weight. But G2 Axle and Gear take even more measures to ensure that their spools can handle anything. After machining, the spools are heat-treated to boost durability. And unlike limited-slip differentials, these spools mechanically link both driveshafts which in turn provides full-time power and torque to both drive wheels--even if one is in the air. This gives you the ultimate confidence in the toughest off-road situations.
The product performs as advertised, locks up both wheels all the time.
Installation was a different story. I am a certified mechanic, and this took me 3 hours to install. Every single mating surface except the holes in the blocks for the crosspin had to be ground down. Very poor machining. Lots of time spent at the bench grinder and with the angle grinder to get it to fit properly.
I would recommend it, just be warned install is not as easy as advertised.

i would buy it again
very easy to install and as strong as the stock carrier.
By john the mudslinger from helenwood tn
strong and lock tight
I use this product to make my both wheel turn at the same time not open anymore and cheap way to lock up instead buy a pricey locker. Only problem I had was it couldnt fit the c clip only if you take it to the professional I suggest, lathe the metal 1 1/2 cm off on the end of the part that goes on the axle shaft to make the c clip slide in not crooked or shaving off the clip to make it work. The best way is lathe trust me! i would recommend it to a friend only if they got the right tools
Hello , I want to know WHY exactly this part doesn't fit Jeep JK Rear Dana 44 Differentials.
Marc Tonka from Quebec, QC on
They changed the stock carrier on the 2007 and up JK. The new carrier takes a different size side gear than the older 44's. If you really want to install a mini spool you can use a carrier from a TJ or any older Dana 44.

Hello i have a 86 cj7 with a dana 30 front axle and am wondering if this will work and also why it is not recommended for front axles
levi from United States on
Hello Levi. The G2 Axle and Gear Dana 44 30 Spline Mini Spool, part # G/285-2033M, will work for the 86 CJ7 as long as it has the Dana 44 rear axle. Spools are not recommended for the front axle because it will bind the steering and make it very difficult to steer. Thank you

Is it a good idea to put one in the rear of a daily driver truck?
Dorsett from on
Hello Dorsett, The G2 Axle and Gear Toyota 8in. 4 Cyl. Full Spool is not recommended for street use. Your best option is going with a limited slip or a selectable differential.
