Factory replacement part.
My tailgate was opened while my jeep was leaning towards the passenger side. The tailgate check popped loose and my hinges were overstretched. I bought new tailgate hinges and replaced the original tailgate check with this product. Very comparable to my original tailgate check. I have seen complaints that the replacement breaks easily, but I believe that is likely because people haven't replaced their damaged tailgate hinges.
The tailgate check is not designed very well. If you have oversized tires, they can pull the arm right out of the base. After having the issue on two others, I finally modified the last one to prevent it from pulling out. (Small bolt drilled through the back side of the arm). It seems to be working now.
Q: How is this check arm installed Answer this question

A: 1. Open the tailgate. Remove fasteners holding the interior quarter panel trim in place. NOTE: If vehicle is equipped with a subwoofer it will need to be removed. 2. Pull the interior quarter panel trim to expose the Tailgate Check mount. Remove the four T30 Torx head bolts. 3. Remove the two T-30 bolts that mount the factory Tailgate Check to the tailgate. Remove the OE check. 4. Place the new Tailgate Check in place. Using the OE hardware, loosely fasten the Tailgate Check to the interior of the vehicle. 5. Loosely fasten the Tailgate Check to the tailgate using the OE hardware. Torque all hardware to 10 ft. lbs. (13.5 Nm) 6. Reinstall interior panel and subwoofer (if applicable). 7. Test the function of the Tailgate Check.
