AMP Research has released the PowerStep XL, an automatic, electric-powered running board designed for lifted trucks. The board has been integrated into a custom rocker rail, creating a seamless look while providing a 3 lower stepping surface than the original PowerStep that makes accessing lifted trucks easier.
excellent quality...instructions need some work...
These Amp Powerstep XL side steps are amazing. Great quality and easy install.
Solid product. Wife and I love it. We get positive looks each time we get in or out of the Jeep :)
I haven't installed the steps yet but my pre-purchase research showed that though the product is great, the manual is sub-par. The DRAWINGS are vague at best & in gray scale. The text isn't clear enough to make up for the poor drawings. We need to bring back the job of "technical writer" as they seemingly don't exist any more! I was HOPING by the time the steps arrived the manual I saw online would have been updated but sadly no (I read reviews where other complained about the same issues). A color manual with actual marked up photos would be a great addition to the product! My other gripe is the arrogant customer service rep who I called to ask a few pre purchase questions when trying to narrow my step manufacturer choices down. The AMP guy kept referring to the product as "well "my" product" does or doesn't do XYZ. If it were "his" product he wouldn't be answering phones! Anyway the parts look very nicely made & thankfully my electro/mechanical background will help me get them installed properly:-)
Q: Are these rock slider ready What I mean is will they take a beating on the trail and still work good when you are done off roading.? Answer this question
A: These are not meant to be used as a rock slider or for off roading.

A: These will in no way work as rock sliders, you will destroy them in my opinion. If you want something that will hold up in that situation look at the Rockslide Engineering units.

Q: Did you understand these are going on a jeep? So if I hit a big hole in the road, are they going to fall off? If I go off roading and don't hit them on a boulder or bottom out but they get a good shaking up, are these going to fall off? Disturbed here Answer this question
A: They won't fall off! They are held to the Jeep with through bolts in the same manner as the factory steps.

Q: What happens when I have my doors off my Jeep? Answer this question
A: When the doors are removed, the wiring to the door ajar switches is disconnected. This means the computer doesn't think the doors are open. The default position for the AMP PowerStep power running board is up so they will not deploy. You can add a manual override switch, if desired. 79105-01A, 79106-01A or 79107-01A are the three different part numbers depending on application
