Jeep XJ Cherokee NP242 Transfer Case

The Jeep NP242 transfer case was introduced in the 1987 model year as a replacement for the NP228. The 242 premiered in the XJ Cherokee / Wagoneer and MJ Commache as the SelecTrac option. It was used in the 1987-01 XJ Cherokee. Your truck is able to handle a wide range of terrains and off-road challenges thanks to the hard work of the 4 wheel drive system. However, this system depends on a variety of parts in order to function properly. One such crucial part is the NP242 transfer case, which uses a series of gears, gaskets and other parts to transfer power from the drivetrain to each of your axles when the 4WD mode is activated.
