Remove the Broken CV Joint
This is a project that can be done solo, but a friend can speed up the process and make it easier. Once your Jeep is lifted up, unbolt the drive shaft. A flathead screwdriver and a hammer can release the driveshaft with gentle tapping. Break the clips free with a flathead screwdriver. The boot comes off easily with a razor blade. Pry off the top of the CV joint by hammering the flathead screwdriver beneath the lip of the top. Clean the parts with a rag then remove the clips. Install the New CV Joint
Now that the old one has been removed, unwrap the CV joint repair kit. They should be identical to the old. Start by adding the new driveshaft boot onto the driveshaft with the small clamp in place. Then the larger clamp goes next then the bottom of the CV Joint, the actual joint and carefully hammer all in place. Replace the c-clip at the top with the snap ring pliers. Grease the top and bottoms of the joint to the top. Replace the bolts into the cap, line up the gasket in the cap, and push into place. Carefully hammer on, slide the boot back on, tighten bolts, and put clips in place. Put the driveshaft back in your vehicle, tighten the bolts and prepare for the next adventure.
