Some truck owners and campers live for the summer months, but as summer winds down and we move into fall, the foliage begins to change, and we enter an arguably more beautiful camping season. The weather is cool and comfortable, and the views are stunning. It's not until things cool down a bit that the bugs start to clear up, and campfires are so much better when the weather chills. Camping and taking road trips throughout the fall season is a real pleasure, but only when you equip your vehicle with the proper tools and equipment. Whether you're going for an extended road trip that includes some possible rough terrain, or you're taking your vehicle camping, adding things like truck tents, racks, water or fuel storage, and some light solutions will help ensure you're ready for everything. Learn the fall road trip camping must-haves you should equip your vehicle with. Truck Tents & Awnings Above all else, shelter is most important when you go camping. No matter if you're camping in the middle of nowhere, or you're heading to an established park, you can equip your pickup with a tent and an awning for fast and convenient shelter anywhere. With the proper tents and awnings, you have instant protection from the weather, and setup only takes moments when you arrive. Truck owners can obtain truck tents designed to utilize the truck bed and roof effectively. The tents are made from durable and lightweight materials and designed to mount on the vehicle roof or bed for a flat and dry sleeping environment. Pair a tent with a truck bed mattress and you'll have a comfortable sleeping environment just minutes after reaching your camping location. Many of the tents can be mounted on your pickup before you head to your destination, giving you a secure location to store your cargo until you arrive, and cutting down on setup time once you're there. Look for a tough truck tent that offers enough space to sleep comfortably, and that fits your pickup properly. Truck awnings add convenient space that blocks moisture and direct sunlight while attaching securely to the side or rear of your pickup. Set up the awning and place any gear or a table underneath for instant protection. Combine the awning with added accessories such as a tire table and you have space to place food and other items out of the rain. Each of these items attaches to your vehicle for a fast and reliable installation, making them into must-have fall camping accessories. Car Racks Cars aren't often the first choice for campers looking to carry substantial gear, but they can do the job when outfitted properly. No matter what gear you have to bring, car racks can give you the exterior storage space you need to carry it along on the trip. Invest in top cargo racks for additional storage for bags, and bulky gear. Add fish and game racks to bring poles and extra equipment, or outfit your ride with a rooftop cargo carrier for enclosed storage space. Cars even work well for transporting bicycles with help from a rear-mounted bike rack. Each rack can be fitted to your vehicle specifically to securely hold and carry your equipment where you need it most. Water & Fuel Storage When going fall road trip camping, there may be times when you can't reach civilization regularly for supplies. In those instances, it's beneficial to have access to reliable water and fuel storage solutions you can use. A high-quality accessory gas can gives you additional space to keep fuel along for the ride. By adding just an additional five or ten gallons of reserve fuel, you can travel significantly farther without access to a gas station. Carrying additional fuel is an excellent idea when traveling in unfamiliar locations and you'll feel more secure knowing you have a backup supply to rely on. Even when camping in cool weather in the fall you'll want access to a supply of water. Keeping a water storage can or container in your vehicle, along with a faucet or pump for quick access, gives you a convenient source of water for every camping trip you take. If you bring enough water, you can wash your dishes, shower, and stay hydrated on each trip you take. Portable Lighting There's nothing worse than trying to navigate in the dark, which is why it's essential to keep reliable portable lights available for each fall road trip. Lights are even more important if you're going camping. Bring along a powerful flashlight at a minimum, and consider carrying a headlamp or two for a hands-free light source. Modern lights rely on high-output LEDs, and some include a built-in rechargeable battery, while others must be outfitted with batteries to function properly. Choose well-made lights and keep them in your glove box, in the back of your vehicle, and in your camping equipment so a light is always available to you. Winches & Recovery Fall camping and road trips are thrilling, but they can come with unexpected weather and muddy conditions that could leave you stranded if you aren't prepared. While not every fall road trip with camping is going to lead you across difficult terrain with the risk of getting stuck, many trips will. You'll feel more confident tackling difficult trails and unexplored terrain when your vehicle is equipped with a powerful winch and the necessary recovery gear to use it properly. Invest in a well-made winch and a cable or rope that's capable of pulling your vehicle and you'll have the ability to pull yourself out of the mud, snow or anywhere else you get stuck. Match a good sturdy winch with extras such as straps, trail jacks, ramps, and other tools and you'll have the ability to navigate most problems you encounter on the road. Equip your vehicle with the gear we've mentioned here and you'll have a comfortable shelter, water and fuel, usable light, and enough storage space to bring any extras along that we didn't cover in this guide. Roughing it out in nature is thrilling, but it's even more enjoyable when you have the equipment you need from 4 Wheel Parts to stay comfortable, safe, and to explore with confidence. |
