Installed on a 1983 CJ7: Didn't have to drop the tank and everything lined up perfectly, biggest issue I had was trying to install by myself and a few rusty bolts on my jeep all in all looks great

Comments about SmittybiltClassic Rock Crawler Bumper and Tire Carrier with Receiver Hitch and D-ring Mounts:

The bumper was easy to install, works great and looks great. Yes, the gas tank needs to be dropped a little to get to the bolts from the backside; its not that big a deal. The bolt holes do line up just fine if you use the template provided and take your time to center punch the holes right. I had not problem installing the bumper. There is a problem with rattling from the latch on the swingaway

I carry a 33 inch tire and it dose its job very well. But the post that carries the tire rack is not strait up it is kick out at the top so the tire leans out. But it will do job. I would still recommend it to a friend.

Comments about SmittybiltClassic Rock Crawler Bumper and Tire Carrier with Receiver Hitch and D-ring Mounts:

Product could have come with more easy to read instructions for the specific jeep model that I have. When installing, be sure to mark holes for drilling at the same height, this way bumper sits level with frame (mine is off by a 1/4" and will not lock door in place. Wish product came in shiny black option also, instead of the basic texture. The textured paint also make placement of bolts and the h

After removing the gas tank the install was easy. There are four bolts on the inside that were imposible for my fingers to start threading. Right now I have a 32" tire mounted and am going to a 33" later on. The welded in hitch receiver however is not straight, it kind of points down.

Comments about SmittybiltClassic Rock Crawler Bumper and Tire Carrier with Receiver Hitch and D-ring Mounts:

I appreciate the other reviews, I went into the install with some clear expectations. I have an '06 TJ and yes you do need to drop the fuel tank, but its pretty easy, it's only 3 bolts and 6 nuts. I also removed the exhaust hanger just so it was easier to get a socket on a few of the bolts for the new bumper. I did not have any of the issues that I read about on here such as, holes not lining up o

Comments about SmittybiltClassic Rock Crawler Bumper and Tire Carrier with Receiver Hitch and D-ring Mounts:

The bumper and tire carrier are very well built and you will not be disappointed with the quality of them. However like other people have said, you do have to drop the gas tank completely and you will need to make the holes on your jeep fit the bumper, so be prepared to work. I didn't have to use the template to drill holes, mine already had them but nothing lined up...kind of frustrating, if this

Comments about SmittybiltClassic Rock Crawler Bumper and Tire Carrier with Receiver Hitch and D-ring Mounts:

Looks good now that it's on. I own a LJ so I didn't even need to drop the gas tank. Should have been a 1-2 hour job without that step, but took much longer. Bolts didn't line up even with correct use of the template provided. A couple bolts were back threaded and wouldn't screw in. The tire carrier rattles a lot when driving and hit the tail lights when opened. Overall i'm pretty disappointed and

Comments about SmittybiltClassic Rock Crawler Bumper and Tire Carrier with Receiver Hitch and D-ring Mounts:

Good heavy duty bumper. Material difficult to drill and tap, as I added two of the removed bumpers to the carrier supports. Used the template to drill additional mounting holes per the instructions but they did not align and required enlarging and elongating. Extra hardware made it confusing too. Had to drop gas tank and push forward to allow access for installing mounting bolts. Good bumper/ca

Comments about SmittybiltClassic Rock Crawler Bumper and Tire Carrier with Receiver Hitch and D-ring Mounts:

This replacement bumper and tire carrier are solidly built and overall quite good, however there is a weakness in the latch system. There is a plastic "guide" that fits on the bottom of the bumper to help hold the tire carrier in place when closed and it has now broken twice. Smittybilt replaced the first one, but now sends me to 4Wheel Parts for the second replacement. I asked if this was a de

Comments about SmittybiltClassic Rock Crawler Bumper and Tire Carrier with Receiver Hitch and D-ring Mounts:

This tire carrier is sweet on paper. In order to install it you HAVE to remove the gas tank. Or just skip four bolts which makes me feel uncomfortable using the full sized hitch or d rings. Also one of the bolts was off so I have to remove the bumper and expand one of the stock holes. So be prepared for several hours worth of work and a trip to sears to buy the missing nuts and bolts to mount the
