Comments about Detroit Locker GM 8.5in./8.6in. 10 Bolt 30 Spline Automatic Locker:

I bought this because of it's reputation. I've heard nothing but good things for years. So far, it's performing as advertised. However, you have to pay attention on pavement. Especially wet pavement. I've had no problems, but you can't give it too much gas while turning. Easy to get used to though.

      Hi Justin
Your 2008 GMC will be the 8.6" 30 spline 10 bolt rear axle. The limited slips that are clutch type Eaton http://jo.my/bhdnqd And Auburn http://jo.my/xq0thx do well in the desert and have good street manners. My personal preference is the Detroit locker http://jo.my/s8ek7g they are the maximum traction you can get and can handle the pounding that that the desert can dish out. the only problem is that they tend to chirp the tires and clunk on the street allot. Thank You

      Hi Rocket
4 Wheel parts is not a manufacture we are just a retailer for other peoples parts you would have to contact a gear manufacture to have a custom gear set made. i am afraid to say that a custom one off gear set will cost more than a custom 9" ford rear axle assembly that has 4.30 gears available for it Thank You

      Hi Clinn
We will need the year of the vehicle to give you an exact part number for the install kit. the axle code GT4 just tells me the gear ratio of 3.73 not the year of manufacture. The 98 and older trucks will use the G/235-2021L kit http://jo.my/1c7jl1 99-08 trucks will use the G/235-2022 kit http://jo.my/jnimf8 and the 09 up trucks will use the G/235-2022A kit http://jo.my/vo61eb . Thank You

      Hi Ronda
You are not required to change the gears when installing a Detroit locker. you may wish to look at what gear ratio you have and consider changing them now rather than later you will be paying for labor twice. Thank You

  • Q:

I have a 99 Chevy Tahoe LS 4x4 with a GT4 rear end and want to lock it (posi, front and rear) the cheapest way possible. Is it possible to put a g80 differential inside the GT4 axle housing? If not do they make some kind of add on that can be installed in my differential to make it posi lok? Will this fit in my housing?

      Hi Joe
The least expensive way to lock the rear of your 1999 Chevy Tahoe is to install a lock rite locker http://jo.my/oq2x2 This unit will install into your factory open differential carrier without removing the ring and pinion. unfortunately there is still nothing on the market for the front axle at this time. Thank you
